nothing special.
a story that could have happened to any other band. just something we don't
want to keep back from you. so feel free to read the short history of
KENZARI'S MIDDLE KATA*.
the band startet in spring
2003 with the following line-up that has not changed until today: josef
weizenbeck (drums), helli killermann (bass), hannes wastl (guitar/vocals)
and roland hanisch (guitar/vocals). living a bit split up in an hillbilly
area about one hour of ride in the east of munich they all knew each other
some years
before from times when they were
playing shows together around south-east germany each in different bands,
and still some of the guys got other bands or take part in other projects.
after they had become influenced by 90ies emo and early screamo and also
with the rise of bands like AT THE DRIVE-IN (US), TEN GRAND (US), McLUSKY
(UK), NORTH OF AMERICA (CA) or ...AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD
(US) - just to name a few - hannes and roland came together writing the
first songs for KENZARI'S MIDDLE KATA. (by the way "selfish target revolt"
was the very first song they wrote, and there were only two songs that did
not appear on a release until now.) soon they were supported by josef on
drums and last but not least helli, who actually
was a guitarist, joined the band playing bass.
so after spending one year with rehearsing, D.I.Y.-recording a first demo-EP
in may 2004 and about twenty concerts
around south germany - also with some "big ones" like SMACKDOWN (SE),
STOP IT (US), REMOVAL (CA), SOMETREE and others - these four young guys
were already called "the darlings of the bavarian post-hardcore scene"
(musikverein, nuremberg) and there were high expectations concerning to their
first longplayer.
they sold out the first three hundred demo-EP's by D.I.Y. and before touring
germany for two weeks in march 2005 they put out a second three hundred
pieces edition of their EP "when error is the idea" on millipede records
(nuremberg) which had signed bands like THE NATIONALE BLUE (US), SQUAREWELL
(US), THE EUROPEAN TRANSLATION OF and some more.
so millipede records also signed KENZARI'S MIDDLE KATA's debut album called "black
box consciousness" that was released on april 10th, 2006. it is distributed
by broken silence, available in stores around germany, austria and
switzerland and finally there has also appeared a vinyl version of the new
longplayer. there was also an album tour in april 2006 so for two weeks
KENZARI'S MIDDLE KATA could be seen live all around germany and also at some
shows in austria and switzerland.
besides, one more new song came out on a four-split 7" inch label sampler
with CULM, MERCER and TENLIKE (SE) called "miyagi in spring" by miyagi
records (hamburg) in may 2006.
KENZARI'S MIDDLE KATA went on playing more concerts in summer and also another tour
in fall 2006 to promote their new recorded stuff and until the end of the
year they had played support shows for JR EWING (NO), BOYSETSFIRE (US) and ALARMA MAN (SE).
the year 2007 was a bit more quiet, but the guys were just retiring for
writing new songs that came out on a split-LP/CD with NIHILISTS from
braunschweig in november, and they were very happy to celebrate their close
friendship with a split and common tour between the years 2007 and 2008.
what also meant quite much to them was being invited to
support ENVY (holy shit, JP) in munich, and being contacted by guido lucas
(GENEPOOL, KEN, EX-SCUMBUCKET), who offered working together with them
concerning their next record.
so after another tour around germany, czech republic and austria in spring
2009 KENZARI'S MIDDLE KATA started working intensively on a new album.
the songs for "body vs. function" were recorded and mixed during six days in
february 2010 with guido lucas at blubox studio, troisdorf. promo sales
started in september 2010 on a promo tour around germany, austria and
switzerland and after the official release on february 4th 2011, there was
also an official album tour in germany.
